You do not need a portfolio

A portfolio is built by the agency after it signs you, usually through test shoots it arranges. Turning up with expensive photographs taken by a photographer who found you on Instagram signals inexperience, not readiness. Digitals are what is asked for.

Being findable is the whole problem

Scouts cannot sign someone they never see. Open calls and street scouting reach a tiny geographic slice. A published profile that scouts can search removes the geography problem, which is why it is the fastest route for someone with no contacts.

How long does it take to get signed?

It varies from days to never, and it depends mostly on category fit and how many agencies can actually see you. Being findable is the only part you control.
